In Memory of Emeritus Prof. Eric Lowson Marson born 24/10/1933, died 3/11/2019 after a sudden illness. Appointed Chair of German at the University of New England (UNE) in 1968. Founding Associate Editor of the journal Seminar (a journal for Australasian and Canadian Germanics) 1965-1978. He was instrumental in the establishment of Music, Theatre Studies, Italian and Linguistics at UNE and the foundation Head of the School of Modern Languages 1981-1988 (a productive co-operation of German, French, Italian, Modern Greek and Linguistics). Eric was a keen motorcyclist, and lover of literature, investigating in particular Franz Kafka's The Trial, and Thomas Mann's Death in Venice. Survived by his wife Patricia Marson, three children from marriage to Mary (Richard, Rosemary and Eve), and two children from marriage to Linda (Sylvia and Marion); and grandchildren Katrina, Eleanor, Simon, Bridgette, Sam, Sol, Regan, and Lana.
